Scouting changes lives and helps children and
young adults to reach their full potential,” says
Chantal Steer. Resident of Strandfontein Village
for 36 years. After moving to Strandfontein, Chantal
was approached by Neville Marshall, Troop
Scouter of 1st Strandfontein Scouts, to assist with
the group, was nominated as Secretary and as
the saying goes ‘the rest is history’!
Chantal has stuck with 1st Strandfontein Scouts
ever since. Chantal has a huge goal and big
dreams for the group. By trying her best to make
children realise that they need to know how much
potential they have she teach them fruitful life and
survival lessons.
Leadership abilities, teamwork, self-motivation,
commitment, perseverance and environmental &
cultural awareness – among others – are the lessons
children and young adults are being taught
at “1st Strandfontein Scouts”.
There are 3 groups at “1st Strandfontein Scouts”
that nearly all children and young adults can join:
• Cubs (7-10):
Follow the Cub trail where they learn new skills,
play games, complete creative crafts, enjoy fun
camps and community projects. Along their journey
they make new friends and acquire a number
of badges.
• Scouts (11-17):
Are guided by the Scout Trail. This adventure trail
includes a wide range of activities such as hiking,
camping, abseiling, swimming, survival skills, first
aid or even flying! Scouting is an awesome and
creative way to have fun, meet new people and
active outdoors while exploring the world around
you!
• Rovers (18-30):
Get the opportunity to indulge in their love for the
outdoors while being of service to others.
“I’m angry, it is so frustrating to see all the potential
and opportunities that are not being utilised!”
says Chantal. She reminds us about the fact that
the residents of Strandfontein are not united.
Achieving full potential and responsible citizens
the main aim of “1st Strandfontein Scouts” confirms
Chantal.
Chantal calls on and encourages parents to get
more involved in their children’s lives so that they
can together with their children learn about the
outdoors while doing it “in a safe and wholesome
environment!”
