South
Africa`s Family/ Social Policy - Panacea or Poison?
February
1st, 1997,South Africa joined the global abortion industry when, the
Termination of Pregnancy Bill was enacted as part of South Africa`s
family/ Social Policy.
In
the name of women`s rights, reproductive health ,family planning and
to reduce the number of back street abortions, the TOP Bill was
enacted, with much opposition from the religious communities at the
time.
Since
then, more than a million, and counting, of pre- born babies have and
are being killed in the wombs of their mothers, in state hospitals.
These
statistics does not include the increase of backstreet abortions
which will remain unaccounted for. The T.O.P.
Bill was enacted to stop back street abortions , has now been given
the green light for abortionist to openly advertise.
On
the 19th commemoration of this piece of legislation, we as the
taxpaying and rightful citizens of South Africa, should be asking the
obvious question ; what have we gained as a society by having such a
policy? in who`s interest of the wider society does it serve, to
still the lives of the un- born?
Of
course it cannot be in the interest of South African tax payer, as
our taxes are being used for the termination of life under the state
health services, making us part of this abortion industry. Neither
can it be in the interest of the inseminating father, who have legal
responsibilities for child maintenance, but has no rights regarding
the birth or destruction of his un born child, Nor can it be in the
interest of the pre- born, as the bill of Rights disregard the right
of the fetus.Only the woman has the inalienable right to choose to
terminate the pregnancy or not.
Neither
can it be in the interest of building the family unit, that will
surely result into building strong communities.
At
some level someone understands what is happening. George Gilder ,
sketches the agenda.; “men are easier to compete with when they are
detached from their families” and “When we weaken the family
unit, society become vulnarable to other forces”.Kathleen Parker
We
understand that over time, what you subsidize and what you penalize
reveal what you are actually after. What does our government
subsidize?
If
a girl falls pregnant, the state will offer to take care of her
provided she does not marry the father.
Simirlaly,
the state will pay for the abortion if the girl wish to terminate the
unborn, that might be the result of the legalization of consensual
sex between teenagers under the age of 16 years.
The
State has indeed created an epidemic of illegitimacy, when it created
the subsidizing of illegitimacy.
Other
than subsidizing the man who wants to marry, start a family and wants
to sustain himself.
Can
it be possible that this great nation of South Africa that has put an
end to Apartheid, by making the ultimate sacrifices and spoke out
against all forms oppression, are now living with the idea that we
must save the rhino, while we allow hundreds abortions a year?
In
an age of advanced technology, we have chosen a way of life that
protects criminals and ignore their victims. Marriages are shattered;
the family faces extinction; teenagers taking their own lives;
alcohol and cocaine are choking us to death and HIV Aids are
spreading to millions.
The
final test of a civilisation is how they treat their children, as if
to add insult to injury, unfortunate South African children lucky
enough to have avoided abortion will end up being molested, abused,
even killed.
South
Africa, with its diverse religious communities, have a legacy to
protest and speak out against any form of violation against human or
animal rights, whether it be local or globally, it still boggles the
mind why the silence and luke warm attitudes when it comes to the
aborted children, society might have mothered and fathered.
We
can conclude that the family policy of South Africa is not meant to
build strong men and women, therefore strong communities. The communal
way of life has been replaced by individualism.
Racial
Apartheid has indeed been replaced by Spiritual Apartheid. We speak
about God as if there is no creation and we speak about creation as
if there is no Creator. As long as religion is not part of
formulation of policy making, it will continue to be more harmful
than a healing to society.

whos who in strandfontein
Moving to Strandfontein from Salt River,29 years ago was a life changing
decision. Being so used hustle and bustle of Salt River and five minutes away
by train from the city of Cape Town, required some adjustments, especially for
a young married couple with three small children. Well! we took the bold step, despite
the families comments ” Hoekom gaan julle so ver bly”?.
The reason why we moved to this area,my Husband Mogamat Sayed Davids got a
post as a woodwork teacher at a senior secondary school in Mitchells plain and
travelling from Salt river everyday became a costly affair.
The house we selected from amongst all the newly built homes that we could
choose from, was number four Marlin Crescent, opposite Masjidul Baghr. My
husbands reasoning was “ It will be good to raise the children close to the
school and the mosque environment.
Of course certain adjustments had to be made, as a mom I decided to give up
my career as a budding designer / dressmaker, having worked in the CBD, I
furthered my career from home, to be with the kids, as their development have always been our first priority.
With the grace of the
Almighty, it worked well and clients were but too happy to take a drive to the
beach area for fittings and so on.
Well, 29 years later, Strandfontein doesn’t seems so” Far” for people to
visit anymore. In fact we are now being envied for staying so close to the
beach. Strandfontein has become “selfsustaining” with its own shopping centers
, clinic, educational and health facilities. As a family, we have grown with
the community. The children, now adults, are ploughing back into the community.
The eldest being a qualified schoolteacher / nurse, the youngest a journalist
for community radio 786 and our only son is in the field of electrical
engineering.
As a Muslim mother, I am proud to serve my community too. My love for
people, learning and teaching I have inherited from my mother. Even though she
passed on a year ago, at the age of 89, she served this community too , educating
our senior women from Strandfontein.
At the launch of the first Islamic community radio 786, 20 years ago, oppurtunity
knocked again, the search was on for presenters and producers, and I took the
bold step into the world of broadcasting, and since then, I never looked back.
I saw radio as a means to educate, uplift my community. I started off as
producer and presenter of a weekly “social justice” program dealing with social
and women`s issues. To date I am a regular guest on community radio, every Wednesday
between 11 and 12pm.
I see the role of women as natural organisers , and I am grateful to God
that He has chosen me to serve His Creation . So one of my pet projects is to
co-ordinate empowerment workshops for the youth and women.
Namely; “The Miracle of being Woman” These workshops are tailor made and
are very age appropiate. Its main focus is to Heal the legacy of our Mothers; Awaken
the God –Given female spirit; To learn to listen and trust their bodies; To
realise their self worth, and most of all” Be the Woman God wants you to Be”
